Description:
This eAudiology Web seminar, developed specifically for audiologists, will define the important terms related to professional liability and standard of care. Examples of medical errors in audiology will be identified. Preventive steps for reducing medical errors are reviewed in detail. The presentation concludes case scenarios and actual cases involving errors or alleged errors, with a summary of how they could have been presented. The presentation stresses the importance of prevention of medical errors in hearing health care.
This course should satisfy the Florida State licensing board continuing education requirement for a course entitled "Medical Errors". (CE Broker tracking#: 20-394507)
James W. Hall III, PhD received a Bachelor's degree in biology from American International College, a Masters degree in speech pathology from Northwestern University and, in 1979, his Ph.D. in audiology from Baylor College of Medicine under the direction of Dr. James Jerger. Dr. Hall is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Audiology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale Dr. Hall also holds an appointment as Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
Dr. Hall's main research interests are in the area of auditory neurophysiology, clinical assessment of auditory processing disorders and central auditory nervous system function, newborn hearing screening, tinnitus & hyperacusis, and the assessment and management of hearing of professional musicians. He is the author of over 150 journal articles, monographs, or book chapters, as well as the Handbook of Auditory Evoked Responses and Audiologists' Desk Reference Volumes I and II, the Handbook of Otoacoustic Emissions, the New Handbook of Auditory Evoked Responses, and Objective Assessment of Hearing, and the recent Introduction to Audiology Today.
